WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR?
We take pride in our training and in our appearance on the road. We therefore require all riders that train with us to wear sturdy footwear that will cover the ankle (trainers will not be acceptable) and jeans as a minimum to cover your legs. We can supply you with a helmet, jacket and gloves if you do not yet have these. If you are looking to purchase your own kit then please consider taking some time to come and chat with us. We'll be able to help you understand what it is you should be looking to get in order of priority. We've been riding for many years and in many weathers so let us help you avoid the mistakes we may have made in the past.
WHERE CAN I BE TRAIN FROM?
Exeter: Devon Travel Academy, Westpoint, Clyst St Mary, Exeter, EX5 1DJ
(this is our main base for CBT's & Full Licence courses due to it’s exceptional training facilities)
Torbay: 142 Torquay Road, Paignton, TQ3 2AH.
Once we have trained you to a suitable level at our Westpoint base with its practice road network we can then offer all of your further training from our Paignton base.
WHERE CAN I TAKE MY FULL MOTORCYCLE TEST?
MOD 1 (Off Road): mainly taken at Exeter but we can consider Plymouth, Camborne or Taunton (£15.50).
MOD 2 (Road Only): mainly taken at Exeter or Launceston but we can consider Plymouth or Barnstaple (£75.00).
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
The length of course and final price will very much depend on your current or previous riding experience, if you have done your CBT with us we will have given you an idea of how many days will be required, if however you completed your CBT with another company we may suggest an assessment session to gauge where your riding level is currently at, this will allow us to get you booked onto the right length course and ensure you have the best opportunity of passing first time.
WHAT BIKE WILL I TRAIN ON?
For category A (DAS / Unrestricted) – We currently use two BMW F750GS, with both standard and low seat options available. We also have a Kawasaki ER6n which we have lowered to the maximum suitable to accommodate riders who may find the 750GS to tall.
For category A2 (47bhp / Restricted) - We currently use a restricted BMW G750GS, Honda NC700X or Restricted ER6n. For the Automatic A2 licence we have a Suzuki Burgman 400.
For category A1 (125cc / Light) – We use the Yamaha YBR or Honda CB125F and for the automatic option we have a Peugeot Tweet.
For CBT (50cc or 125cc) – We use the Yamaha YBR and Honda CB125F for the geared option and a Peugeot Tweet 125cc or Piaggio Zip 50cc for the automatic option. When suitable to do and the rider is old enough we will use the funky BMW G310r.
WHAT DO THE COURSE PRICES INCLUDE?
The price is inclusive of the hire/use of our training school bikes, fuel, insurance and any motorcycle clothing that may be required. We only ever operate at a maximum ratio of 2 students per instructor. 1-2-1 courses will of course be exactly that.
IS THERE AN ADVANTAGE TO A 1-2-1 COURSE?
There are a few advantages to mention. A 1-2-1 course can often lead to potentially one less training day being required in total due to the individual attention received from your instructor. There is greater flexibility with start and finish times as it will only be yourself on the course. Have the sole focus of the instructor is never going to be a bad thing and there isn't another rider to influence your course. We also find 1-2-1 courses can cover more miles during their training due to less time being held up at junctions when trying to keep three riders (instructor included) together.
